The Strategy for the Implementation of Vocational Education
in the United Kingdoms
UK vocational education and training includes training for commercial, technical and professional development, transferable personal skills as well as specifi c skills required to carry out a specifi c job. The system of vocational education in the UK was initially developed independently of the state. As the labor market becomes more specialized and economies demand higher levels of skills, governments and businesses are increasingly investing in the future of vocational education through publicly funded training organizations and subsidized apprenticeship or traineeship initiatives for businesses. UK vocational education now exists in specific trades such as retail, tourism, and information technology. The system includes all levels of training from the most basic life skills to basic and advanced trade training to postgraduate management training, with a range of National occupational standards developed for each occupational area. It is realized through vocational partnership networks involving UK government, organizations and bodies with a range of capabilities and expertise in vocational education. What is essential in this system is the involvement of the employers, which is guaranteed by employer representation on all the bodies.
